Raven Solomon
Title of body of work: Love, Light, & Latex
Artist statement:
This body of work explores the intersection of queerness and kink and the community that surrounds it. The kink community is a diverse and inclusive group united by a shared interest in non-traditional, connective experiences. These practices, expressions, and lifestyles challenge conventional boundaries, often leading to misconceptions about what this community truly is. Kink encompasses a broad range of activities and preferences, some of which—like latex, rope, power exchange, impact play, and sensory play—are represented within this collection. Each image highlights a unique aspect of the community, celebrating the connections and experiences made possible within this safe, expressive space. Consent, communication, and safety are fundamental pillars that form the foundation of all interactions.
The intention behind these images is to create a warm, open atmosphere that invites curiosity and encourages an open-minded perspective on the unique space this community holds. Each image aims to evoke an experience of authenticity, where individuals embody themselves fully and find empowerment in self-expression. By focusing on the essence of form, shape, and the emotional connections within the community rather than on specific acts, these works aspire to elevate this space to a fine art perspective, offering a portrayal that feels inviting, genuine, and refined.
