Title of the body of work: Luminosity
Artist statement:
My series, Luminosity, explores light and shape, by utilising abstract light sources to draw attention to the subject. These digital photographs break away from traditional studio lighting setups by using unique colours and shapes to light the subject, creating timeless, surreal images. The work is based on my interest in light and the way it interacts with our world, building on and improving my current knowledge of studio photography. My aim is to convey the near endless possibilities when using light, and its ability to create surreal effects in reality.
Artist bio:
Finlay Kerswell is an exhibited Sydney based photographer, with experience in street, landscape, product and portrait photography. He took interest in photography from a young age, and received his first camera for his 15th birthday, after excelling in photography at school. Finishing high school last year and currently studying photography at TAFE, he aspires to be a professional photographer. Finlay explores many facets of photography in his work, taking interest in both digital and analogue technologies. He enjoys capturing and displaying his perspective of the world around him in his work, as well as manually creating unique atmospheres such as in the series Luminosity, using his recently acquired experience in studio photography to manipulate light to form his vision.
